This activity will help you address environmental damage by encouraging eco-friendly practices. Individual actions are crucial to tackling this issue, and through this activity, you can make a significant impact on the environment. Small steps can mobilise large-scale change.
Environmental damage is something we are all aware of. Extreme weather events, water scarcity, and health risks are becoming widespread across the globe. This situation leads to tremendous social and political instability, and young people struggle to find ways to contribute to meaningful change. Many young people feel a strong sense of responsibility to protect the planet, and through this activity, you can demonstrate your place in this global youth movement.
First, get inspired!
Watch an introductory video to understand to what extent humanity has contributed over the years to the disastrous results we face today:
Need more convincing evidence on how this situation affects you personally? Educate yourself by listening to a podcast about the importance of sustainability and the ways environmental damage can impact human rights and lead to social inequalities.
Now, take action!
Through these small activities, you’ll learn how to reduce your environmental impact. This activity will provide you with the tools needed to create change within your community and inspire your peers to follow your actions and interests.
- Reflect on the condition of your neighbourhood: It’s easy to overlook environmental damage when you’re busy or accustomed to an area. Take a step back and observe how your surroundings could improve. What are the key issues affecting the environment in your community? Is there litter in public spaces? Do people recycle enough? Do most residents rely on private vehicles over public transport? Look closely at these common habits and consider how you and those around you might be impacting the environment.
- Consider how you can reduce your own environmental impact: Mahatma Gandhi once said, “Be the change you want to see in the world.” Start by assessing how your actions and habits could be more eco-friendly. Even small changes to your daily routine can lead to meaningful environmental improvements.
- Take action in your surroundings: Once you’ve begun to adopt more sustainable habits, think about how you can inspire others. Organise a discussion with friends, family, or community members to raise awareness about environmental issues. Share your own lifestyle changes as an example, and encourage others to adopt sustainable practices.
