Proactive networking in youth work

Content

Networking involves developing and managing partnerships with other relevant actors.

Youth work does not happen isolated from the rest of the world. Youth workers facilitate networking with others (in their community and outside it).

Having a chance to network, you can take a proactive stance and make the most of such an opportunity. You can take the following actions during a networking session:

  • Action 1: Networking Speed Chat - introduce yourself and your organisation’s work to 3 other participants
  • Action 2: Find Your Connection - find 2-3 people whose youth work has common themes or potential collaboration points
  • Action 3: Partner Pitch Challenge - in groups of 3, each person has 1 minute to pitch their youth work and what kind of partners they are looking for.
  • Action 4: Collaboration Map - in small groups (4-5 people), create a quick visual map showing how your organisations can be interconnected in a project or initiative.
  • Action 5: Shared Commitment - commit to one follow-up action with at least 3 other participants you connected with today.
