By being within a new environment or seeing a lot of friends for a long time, speaking a different language than your mother tongue, there is a big possibility that you want to be everywhere, meet everybody, and party as much as possible. This strategy probably feels exciting - for a while -. But you can’t keep it up for the long term. And beyond that, the tiredness that you will get sets a negative route for your learning experience. Being part of this training is not a sprint, you need a clear mind and healthy body to learn, manage your emotions, and be able to focus.
- How will I achieve that balance of mind and healthy body?
- And how will I preserve the greatest asset that I have? ME!
Start by prioritising your time on the most important things to do (see also habit 3). And keep in mind that one of those most important things is self-care! Many people define 4 dimensions to work on self-care or renewal:
- Physical: caring for your physical body via having your needed exercise, eating healthy food and reducing stress
- Spiritual: making time to think about and work on your values and mission,
- Mental: To keep going with learning for example via reading or writing
- Social/Emotional: Doing some social service, creating synergy among people or take care about your own intrinsic safety feeling
At the end of the day make sure to reflect on your learning, but also to check out how you preserve your greatest asset YOU! And plan for tomorrow the things that worked out well for you or how to do it even better.
- Keep it going
- Build your crew
